Across the four schools of the Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (CPE Lyon, ECAM LaSalle, ISARA and ITECH Lyon), IPL doctors provide local healthcare support, which is essential to the success of future engineers.
The doctors hold consultation hours directly on campus. Every new student receives a medical check-up to assess their health, vaccinations and adaptation to student life. Given the demands of the course, the medical team also offers confidential support to help combat stress and burnout, whilst facilitating access to psychologists if necessary.
Since 2023, the grant from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, received as part of the ‘Agir pour la réussite étudiante’ call for projects, has enabled the schools and doctors at the IPL to roll out prevention and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at students as well as school staff and teachers.
Three main themes guided these initiatives:
1/ Prevention & health: mental health, addiction, sleep, sexuality, nutrition. Through interactive stands and with the involvement of specialist professionals, doctors led discussion sessions to raise awareness among students. Awareness-raising workshops on mental distress for staff were also organised regularly each year;
2/ Disability: awareness-raising on DYS disorders and the necessary adjustments in higher education was offered to teachers and school staff. Performances were also held in lecture theatres, where over 210 students attended performances of ‘Billy, deux pieds sur terre’, a play recounting the life of a boy from the announcement of his disability at birth through to his entry into adulthood and the world of work.
3/ Gender-based and sexual violence: several training sessions for school staff have enabled the implementation of measures to address gender-based and sexual violence within schools.
By working closely with students, IPL schools ensure a healthy, safe learning environment that prioritises the well-being of everyone.
