Free velov

If you are aged between 18 and 25 and are a student or young person looking for work, the Lyon Metropolitan Council can lend you a bike for 1 year (free of charge).

Eating out

CROUS meals (cafeteria and university restaurant) at €3.30 close to schools.

Bakeries around schools and in town offer quick, affordable meals. You’ll find sandwiches, quiches and salads from €3 to €5, and sandwich and drink options from €6 to €7. Some bakeries offer discounts with a student card or at special times. A great way to eat on a budget!

Applications and locations for cheaper or free meals:

  • Too good to go: an application to combat food waste, which allows you to recover unsold goods from shopkeepers at a low price!
  • Linkee: an association offering a free food distribution service for all students every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm at the Maison des étudiants Métropole de Lyon and Mondays at HEAT.
  • List of food distribution points in the region: me nourrir, tous les dispositifs.

Cheap living in Lyon

  • Good plan: the Pass Culture and the Pass’Région AURA provide a budget for students to spend on culture and/or sport
